ABOUT US
FMCA consists solely of volunteers. We do not own or operate a facility. All animals are cared for in foster homes. All donations go directly to support our programs. We receive no government funding and are entirely dependent on private donations and grant
A LONG HISTORY OF SAVING LIVES
Founded in 1974, Friends of Montgomery County Animals (FMCA) has a long history of providing hands-on help to animals in need and supporting local shelters and other animal welfare organizations during times of crisis. Over the years, our efforts on behalf of animals have taken many forms, but our mission has remained the same: to prevent animal suffering and homelessness by filling gaps in animal services in our region.
F M C A T O D A Y
When our local shelters and rescues are faced with emergencies, such as large-scale cruelty seizures, hoarding cases, or animals with special medical needs, FMCA is there to help. From sponsoring adoption events to raising money for medical care, we help ensure the best outcomes for dogs, cats, horses, wildlife, and other species in times of crisis. We also operate a cat and kitten foster care program to alleviate the burden on local shelters struggling with high feline intake numbers. Our volunteer foster homes provide a safe space for animals to heal and thrive before they’re adopted into loving homes. As a founding member of the Montgomery County Community Cat Coalition, FMCA is tackling feline homelessness at its source. Through a proactive trap-neuter-return spay/neuter program and community outreach, we are reducing the number of unowned free-roaming cats in our region and the litters of kittens flowing into local shelters. We also work to improve the lives of the existing cats, providing emergency veterinary care as needed and supporting a pet food bank for struggling caretakers, barn home adoption program for unsocialized cats, and a cat-shelter building project
